Making City attempts to show how the city of tomorrow can be developped and which role urban planners, politics and inhabitants can play. From 20 April through 12 August 20 world cities will show their plans for the future in the Netherlands Institute of Architecutre (NAi). Test Site Rotterdam, in and around the Schieblock (Schiekade), is a test lab for urban development where you can experience a programme full of events, exhibitions, pop-up stores and pocket parks. In addition to that the 5th IABR presents exhibitions in Almere, São Paulo and Istanbul, inspiring bicycle tours in Rotterdam and TV and radio productions.

Programme Test Site Rotterdam

ZUS will turn the area around Schieblock into a Test Site Rotterdam. The
visitor will gain insight into the process of making cities by using this
area as a test lab. ZUS divided the area up into 20 projects and 5
categories: routing, making sites, transformation, concentration and local
economy. Signs will tell you what will be established in the area like
pop-up stores and restaurants, a park, an open air cinema, a roof top food
growing field and an elevated street. This latter project was chosen by
the Rotterdam population to become a city initiative.
