From the river bank at Boompjeskade a passenger boat leave
twice daily for Kinderdijk. The boat tour takes you along the River
Nieuwe Maas offering great views of the Rotterdam Skyline and the bridges over
the river. The boat takes you to Kinderdijk on the river Lek. Nowhere in the
world so many windmills can be seen together. In times past these windmills
pumped the water out of the canals into the river to maintain a safe water
level behind the dykes. The areas with its 19 windmills is on UNESCO's World
Heritage List. One of the windmills has been refurbished into its original state
and is open to visitors from April through October.
